China's 14th Five Year Plan: Exploring The Impact On Sectors

Special Report / Commodities / China / Thu 01 Apr, 2021

The 14th Five-Year Plan (14FYP), approved and endorsed in March 2021, is very much built on President Xi Jinping’s ‘dual circulation’ strategy, which focuses on rebalancing the economy towards domestic market expansion (internal circulation) and reducing the dependence on imports, while strengthening the capabilities of export-oriented (external circulation) sectors. The 14FYP charts the policy direction for different sectors for the coming five-year period (2021-2025) in line with these goals.

In this report, we identify China’s economic priorities and the implications of the 14FYP for a selected sector examining:

  • Which sectors will outperform in the next five years?
  • Which sub-sectors in China and abroad are at risk from these policy priorities?

The report covers Tech, Consumer & Retail, Agribusiness, Autos, Infrastructure, Mining & Metals, Oil & Gas, Power & Renewables, Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare industries, focusing on four main cross-sector themes:

  • Technology Adoption
  • Emphasis On Self-Reliance
  • Upgrading The Value Chain
  • Decarbonisation Of The Economy
